Teen Black Belt Sparring Competition in Golden, CO, Tournament

This year, we’ve truly enjoyed watching our students discover the world of growth and competition in tournaments. In our first regional tournament of the year, we had the highest number of competitors we’ve seen so far from Superior Martial Arts in one tournament! We’re about halfway through the tournament year, but we’ve still got plenty of opportunities to check out the competition circuit. This week…Nationals in Las Vegas, Nevada!

We’ve got 12 students signed up to compete in the 2022 Las Vegas Nationals tournament on November 12th, with a second tournament, The Venom of Vegas, following the next day. This is also a record attendance for our school, and we can’t wait to hear stories of friendship, adventure, and fortitude from these competitors as they return. Be sure to take a moment to wish them well in classes this week!

If you’re interested in tournaments, but unsure or confused about how they work, we’ve got plenty of instructors, students, and families that would be happy to talk through the process and the events with you. We’re also happy to match you up with a “tournament buddy” for your first experience. Tournaments are a great way to see how you stack up to others in your age range and belt rank, but beyond that, they are a way to make connections and form friendships with other martial artists and families who share similar passions and experiences from all over the nation and, possibly, the world.

Events students can compete in include forms, weapons forms, and sparring (weapons and/or open-hand), as well as inventive and elevated forms (talk to your instructor about the specifics of this category). If you are a part of the leadership team and would like to get involved as a timekeeper, scorekeeper, or a judge, you can also chat with one of your instructors for information on how to get started along that path.

Mark your calendars for February 11th and May 20th…these are the next tournaments in Colorado, hosted in Golden. We’d love to see the bleachers and rings full of Superior Martial Arts students and families!
